Visiting Artists
Visiting artists are provided by Stadium Drive Elementary's PTO. They graciously provide the funds to bring in a guest artist for each grade level every year! The Arts teachers are charged with finding engaging artists from their specialty for a particular grade level. Kindergarten and first explore theatre, second grade experience music, third dance, fourth visual arts, and fifth theatre!
2014-2015 School Year
Kindergarten: We were excited to have Judy Sima visit us during March is Reading Month to share some stories with our Kindergarteners! Mrs. Sima shared many stories with us including Tacky the Penguin, the story of Bob the Rooster, and perhaps our favorite, the story of a great, big TURNIP! You can see some of our students helping to pull the giant turnip out of the ground in the clip below.
First: Coming end of March.
Second: This year, second graders got to meet, dance, and sing with a Grammy Award winning artist Haruna Walusimi. Haruna is a resident artist at Oakland University with faculty member Mark Stone. Being from Uganda, Haruna embodies a holistic approach to the arts called Ngoma. Many African countries view music, dance and theatre as a single art form instead of separate disciplines.
While at Stadium Drive Elementary, Haruna helped second graders explore and learn different songs, dances, rhythms, and musical instruments from Uganda.

Third: Coming Soon.
Fourth: This year 4th Graders enjoyed a visit from BLVisuals. Students had the opportunity to pick their own colors to be suspended on water, swirl to their liking, then dip their own bandana in the paint. Next students helped rinse and dry their creations. As students waited for a turn or tried to will their bandanas to dry, they tried on some glasses that ordered colors by wavelength. Hot colors look as though they are closer to you and cold colors look further away - giving ANYTHING with color a 3-D effect! Once their bandanas were dry, students enjoyed holding them up over lights that changed colors and then magically changed their own bandanas.
