Space, Movement, and Direction
The themes for February/March were “space”, “movement”, and “direction”. It featured maps depicting migration of people throughout history. Students also developed symbolic movements for the Erie Canal Song, explored positive and negative space in shapes, created a movement alphabet, learned to use a symbolic “animal-themed” metric chart to convert units of measurement, and compared/contrasted movement between different types of communities (urban, suburban, and rural). Phys. Ed activities utilizing space, movement, and direction were also showcased, as well as, a music-based unit about leaps, steps, and repeats. “Expression” and “communication” are the themes for April/May.
