Stadium Drive Elementary Productions
Stadium Drive Elementary School of the Arts has many productions each year. Please use the scroll down menu under "Productions" to learn more about each one. Each of these productions are kid focused and very much apart of our building culture. Starting in Kindergarten, students learn and perform "Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes". Every student that has been at Stadium in Kindergarten has done this show, which makes the yearly viewing fun for the older students. We often hear, "I remember I was a spoon!" or "My book buddy is a clock!". This is show is pure joy.
Then in second grade students learn a show that has a theme, but this show changes every year. One might learn about Circus's one year and the river Nile the next. This show is part of the second grade music curriculum and is always a blast to watch. Students spend 12 or so weeks learning, practicing and trying out for speaking rolls and solos!
In fourth grade students take a leap and write original plays for Stadium Drive's Playwright Festival in Theatre class. These are truly original productions as students are in charge of creating characters, settings, problems, solutions, writing the dialog, creating backdrops, creating costumes, and collecting props. Students use theirs skills in both drama and art to communicate their ideas to an audience. Many hours are spent both in and outside of class writing and rehearsing these amazing shows.
Lastly, in fifth grade students combine all their years of learning at Stadium and create a completely original show from scratch. This process starts in fourth grade where students brainstorm characters, settings, and story lines. Then in fifth grade students audition and rank: actor, musician, dancer, and set designer. The arts teachers meet, review auditions, discuss who would fit best where. Then for 8 or so weeks, once a week students split into these 'jobs' and each group is in charge of that aspect of the show. Actors learn lines and stage directions. Musicians compose original music. Dancers choreography original movement sequence. Set designers create backdrops and other set pieces. Students practice during recesses and after school rehearsal to combine all parts and pieces of the show. Fifth grade production is a production in every sense of the word.
